Free Chrome extension
A free screen recorder that keeps secrets.
Record any Chrome tab with your face and voice. Customer emails, card numbers and API keys are hidden before they’re captured, so you can record your real screen. Then download it, or send it and see who watched.
No account needed to record. Chrome 116 or later.
How it works
Record, tidy up, send. In minutes.
- 1
Record a tab, with you in the corner
Open the tab you want to show and click the Cliprame button, or press ⌥⇧R. Your camera sits in a round bubble you can drag and resize, and your voice and the tab’s sound are recorded together. A 3-second countdown gets you ready and never shows up in the video.
- 2
Tidy it up in the editor
Pause when you need a breath, then finish. Your recording opens in the Cliprame editor, where you cut by deleting words from the transcript, add captions, and remove the bits you’d rather not send.
- 3
Send it, and see who watched
Share a link, or insert it straight into a Gmail email with the Video button next to Send. With a free account you see who watched, how far they got, and get an alert the moment they press play.
What you get
Small details that make recording less stressful
Hide private data before it’s recorded
Mask emails, phone numbers, card numbers, API keys, PAN and Aadhaar numbers, or anything you click on. It’s covered on the page itself, so it never reaches the video.
A camera bubble you control
Drag it anywhere on the tab and double-click to change its size. Turn it off for a screen-only recording.
Pause, resume, finish
Stop for a moment without starting over. The toolbar shows REC while you record, so you always know.
One shortcut
⌥⇧R (Alt+Shift+R) starts and finishes a recording from any tab. Change it in Chrome’s shortcut settings.
Keep a copy
Download any recording as a video file. Your latest five stay in the extension, on your computer, until you delete them.
A Video button in Gmail
Pick a video in any Gmail email and it adds a personal thumbnail and a Watch button, linked to that person’s own tracked link.
What people record
Faster than typing it out, kinder than a meeting.
A two-minute video says what a long email can’t: what to click, where to look, and how you sound when you say it.

Questions
Before you install
- Is the Cliprame screen recorder really free?
- Yes. The Chrome extension is free to install and use, and you can record and download without an account. Free recordings have a small “Recorded with CLIPRAME” watermark. A free account adds sharing with viewer tracking for 5 videos of up to 1 minute each; paid plans remove the watermark and host more and longer videos.
- Does it record my whole screen?
- The extension records one Chrome tab at a time, with your camera and voice. To record your whole screen or another app, use the recorder in the Cliprame studio in your browser, which can capture a screen, a window or a tab.
- Do I need an account to record?
- No. Install the extension and start recording. You only need a free account to edit in Cliprame, share a tracked link or use the Gmail button.
- How long can a recording be?
- There’s no time limit while recording, and you can download any recording. To share it through Cliprame, the free plan hosts 5 videos of up to 1 minute each.
- How does hiding private data work?
- Turn on masks for a site in the extension’s Privacy tab. Emails, phone numbers, card numbers, API keys, PAN and Aadhaar numbers, custom words and form fields are covered on the page before the tab is captured, so they never reach the video. You can also click any part of the page to hide it. Text inside images or video can’t be detected, so cover those areas by clicking them.
- Where are my recordings stored?
- Your latest five recordings stay inside the extension on your computer until you delete them. Nothing is uploaded until you choose to open a recording in Cliprame.
- What do I need to use it?
- Google Chrome 116 or later on a computer, such as Mac, Windows, Linux or a Chromebook. A webcam and microphone are optional.
- Chrome says the extension isn’t trusted. Is it safe?
- Chrome’s Enhanced Safe Browsing shows that notice for extensions from publishers that are new to the Chrome Web Store, until they have a few months’ history. It isn’t a warning about anything the extension does. It asks only for the access it needs, and the privacy masks run on your computer.
